The 2017-18 Pittsburgh Top 50 was comprised by polling various college, high school, and AAU coaches in the Pittsburgh region to come up with a ranking for the top 50 girls’ high school players. The coverage area for the Pittsburgh Top 50 encompasses schools within approximately a 70 mile radius of Pittsburgh, and includes programs from PIAA Districts 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Also to note, only players in the classes of 2018, 2019 and 2020 are listed in the Top 100. The Freshman Class of 2021 will have a select few listed as Freshman to Watch.
The Pittsburgh Top 100 is loaded with talent, as the majority of the players ranked have either verbally committed to a D1 program, or have multiple D1 offers to choose from. We have also included an “Others To Watch” portion of the Pittsburgh Top 50, to provide even more quality players in the region with the opportunity to take advantage of the exposure being created by the Pittsburgh Top 50.
Special thanks to Sean Strickland, owner of Strick Hoops (coachstrick.net) and current Penn State Beaver Women’s Basketball Coach, for all of his work in helping gather information from coaches in the region.
Our goal is to create a bigger platform for girls’ basketball in Western Pennsylvania, with the hopes of providing more opportunities for girls’ basketball players in the region. The Pittsburgh Top 100 is just the start of things to come. As we expand our reach into Western Pennsylvania to bring more visibility to girls’ basketball in the region, the Pittsburgh Top 100 “tips off” our promotion of girls’ basketball that will also involve promoting and covering camps, skills clinics, showcases, and tournaments in the region.
We are excited to tip off the 2018-19 season with the Pittsburgh Top 100, and hope all girls’ basketball players and teams in the Pittsburgh region have a great season!
